foraus - Swiss Forum on Foreign Policy

foraus (Forum Aussenpolitik - Forum de politique étrangère - Swiss Forum on Foreign Policy) generates independent, high quality recommendations for Swiss foreign policy decision makers and the public, thereby bridging the gap between academia and politics. Its non-partisan approach aims to promote an open dialogue and informed decision-making on all aspects of Swiss foreign policy. foraus is a grassroots organization. Its success as a think tank is based on its members’ voluntary commitment. Members are primarily graduates and young professionals, active in a nationwide network of young researchers and foreign policy enthusiasts.

Aims

  • Influence Swiss foreign policy by providing a sound basis for decision making
  • Establish an informed dialogue on all aspects of Swiss foreign policy based on scholarly research
  • Advocate for a constructive and open Swiss foreign policy
  • Offer members access to the Swiss foreign policy debate outside the traditional and often constrictive frameworks of party-politics and academia

Activities

  • Publish in-depth discussion papers on all aspects of Swiss foreign policy, e.g. peace and security, development aid and migration, bilateral relations with the EU
  • Regularly organize foreign policy lectures and events, with top-class speakers and guests, such as members of the Swiss Federal Council, national politicians and well known experts from academia, media, and diplomacy
  • Maintain an active network of young policy experts who work on various foreign policy topics, e.g. human rights, international law, finance and economics, international organizations
  • Work within a constructive framework that is open and democratic, in which our experts autonomously choose the topics they research and discuss
  • Communicate with the media, public and legislators, by presenting our results to a wide audience


Organization

  • Established in 2009 in the university cities of Zurich, Berne and Geneva, it now counts over 600 members
  • The main office with four full-time positions is located in Zurich

Born in 1987, Emilia Pasquier is the director of the Swiss grassroots think-tank foraus – Forum on Swiss Foreign Policy. She is a dedicated think-tanker and committed to the idea of advancing politics through research and innovative, practical recommendations.

Emilia gathered her profound knowledge of Swiss and international politics during her studies in political and economic philosophy at the Universities of Bern, Dublin and New York. At the same time, she has been working as a research assistant at the Institute for Political Science of the University of Zurich and Bern.

Prior to her current position, Emilia was Deputy General Secretary at the International Chamber of Commerce Switzerland and Focal Point for the UN Global Compact Switzerland.
