Academy of the Diocese Rottenburg-Stuttgart

The Academy of the Diocese Rottenburg-Stuttgart views itself as a forum for the most pressing issues of our day. It organizes and moderates expert discussions and professional discourses. Since it was founded in 1951, it has been an interdisciplinary dialogue forum with partners from science and practice, focusing on intellectual clarification.

The Academy deals with topics with long-term relevance, even those at odds with the mainstream. It attempts to bring together different points of view to the same table. It selects current key topics, making use of the latest academic knowledge. The Academy covers a wide range of topics such as international relations, migration, human rights, Islam and interreligious dialogue.

Dr Konstanze Jüngling is head of the department of Migration and Human Rights at the Academy of the Diocese Rottenburg-Stuttgart in Stuttgart (Germany). Prior to joining the Academy in late 2017, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher within the research group Frozen and Unfrozen Conflicts at the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies and as a research associate of the department Private Actors in the Transnational Sphere at the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt. She holds a PhD in political science from Technische Universität Darmstadt. Her dissertation, which examines the influence of international human rights criticism on the great powers Russia and the U.S., was published in 2016. 

Her areas of expertise and interest include issues related to human rights, national and international asylum and migration policies, the radicalization and conflict dynamics in the North Caucasus as well as Eastern Europe, in particular the Russian Federation. Ms Jüngling has gained various practical experiences in journalism as well as civil society and political institutions.

Dr Heike Wagner

Dr Heike Wagner is head of the department of International Relations at the Academy of the Diocese Rottenburg-Stuttgart in Stuttgart (Germany). Previously, she worked as Head of Research at IOM Vienna designing and implementing several research projects on migration issues. She directed the Austrian National Focal Point to the European Migration Network and was part of an OSCE expert group on gender-sensitive labour migration policies.

She also worked for IOM Ecuador, designed several research projects and taught Research Methodology at the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales in Quito, Ecuador. Before that she held the position as director of the Latinamerican and the Carribean department at the NGO Misereor (Germany). 

She holds a PhD in cultural and social anthropology from Vienna University, Austria, and graduated in theology with specialisation in ethics (development and human rights issues) at Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, Germany.

Her areas of interest include development, gender and migration, religion, culture and interculturality.
