Defence Research Centre from Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, is a scientific-research institution studying the social dimensions of security, defence, military and peace in the contemporary world. It carries out national and international research projects on national and international security, international security structures, crisis management, peace operations, public perceptions of security, critical infrastructure, terrorism, etc.

The staff of the Defence Research Centre has the capacity to analytically cover different dimensions of OSCE security, such as military, economic, cyber, environmental and political dimension. The centre also includes two former Ministers of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia.

The centre is located at the Faculty of Social Sciences which has become Slovenia’s largest and most prestigious teaching and research institution in social sciences. The Faculty of Social Sciences is well known for its interdisciplinary study programmes, research activi­ties and high quality teaching, as well as many curricu­lar and extra-curricular activities.

The faculty builds its academic excellence through outstanding theoretical and empirical research, extensive scholarly publishing, and a successful transfer of research results in curricula as well as the real sector. The research capacities of the entire faculty includes political science, international relations, European studies, communication studies, cultural studies, sociology, etc.

Iztok Prezelj, Ph.D., is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana. In his research work, he is focusing on the following topics: threat & risk assessment, terrorism & counter-terrorism, national security, crisis management and critical infrastructure. He teaches the following courses: Crisis Management and Security, Comparative Defense Studies, Terrorism and System Countermeasures, Contemporary Intelligence Systems.

He was a member of two Governmental interagency groups in Slovenia, one in the field of counter-terrorism and one in the field of crisis management, a teacher of national and international security in Slovenian Staff & Command School and Adjunct Professor at the George C. Marshal European Center for Security Studies.

He published widely in the mentioned fields.
