Odessa Mechnikov National University (ONU), Faculty of International Relations, Political Science, and Sociology

Since its foundation on 1 May 1865, Odessa I. I. Mechnikov National University (ONU)  has been one of the leading institutions in the formation of the education system, and the development of scientific research and culture in Ukraine.

The Faculty of International Relations, Political Science, and Sociology (with its Department of International Relations, Center for International Studies, and a Center for the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons) is one of the most dynamically developing branches of Odessa Mechnikov National University.

The Department maintains permanent contact with more than 20 foreign universities in Europe, the USA, Canada, Israel, Japan, Turkey, China, and Arab states. The staff of the Department and the Centre for International Studies of ONU take part in various events in order to publish research papers, hold conferences and round tables.

The Centre for International Studies is involved in the search for relevant grants and conducting research projects. The Centre maintains ties with number of partner organizations. Lecturers from the Department and the staff of the Centre for International Studies focus on the European and Euro-Atlantic cooperative processes. The bilateral relations of Ukraine with the number countries of international community, and with such institutional actors, like the UN, the NATO, the EU, the OSCE, the Council of Europe, and other regional and sub-regional organizations are also a focal point of our research and teaching

Today the Department of International Relations is working on several projects in collaboration with our partners : “Cooperation in the Field of Nuclear Non-proliferation Education of Odessa I. I. Mechnikov National University and Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM)” (2009 - present); Nuclear Proliferation International History Project within History and Public Policy Program of Wilson Centre, funded by Carnegie Corporation of NY (2016 - present); Eurasia Peace Studies Exchange Network (EPSE), project of Centre for Peace Studies, University of Tromso, Norway’s Arctic University (2017 - present); Erasmus+ project 586281-EPP-1-2017-1-EE-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP-Rethinking Regional Studies: The Baltic-Black Sea Connection (2017 - present), and some others.

Dr Sergii V. Glebov is the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of International Relations, Political Science, and Sociology, Associate Professor at the Department of International Relations, and Leading Research Fellow at the Center for International Studies, Odessa I. I. Mechnikov National University (ONU).

His research and teaching interests are in the field of foreign and security policy of Ukraine, international relations in the Black Sea-Caspian region, European and Euro-Atlantic security, foreign policy of Russia, NATO-Ukraine, and EU-Ukraine relations.

In 2000/2001 he was a visiting scholar at the Center for European Studies, University of Exeter (Exeter, UK), and at Columbia University, Harriman Institute (New-York City, USA) in 2003. In 2018/2019 he was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the University of California San Diego (School of Global Policy and Strategy), USA.

He has written more than 70 academic articles and papers, which have been published in national and international journals; he has also spoken and presented at  numerous academic conferences and events in Europe and the USA.
